How to Make Custom Printed Cookies with Eddie, the Edible Ink Cookie Printer

Now that you have your new Eddie edible ink printer, there are endless designs you can create and print on your cookies, edible cake toppers, macarons and confections. From custom edible images, to logos, messages and graphics, your clients will be thrilled with their custom printed cookies and confections.

One of the most popular options involves creating edible photo cookies for birthdays, anniversaries and holidays such as Valentine’s Day. Corporate clients are requesting cookies with their company logo. A company logo printed on a cookie is a fun way to show corporate branding at meetings and events. This article will get you started with the basics of creating personalized edible cookies.

Software and Equipment

Start with a good quality logo or photo for your print. Your Eddie printer includes a downloadable copy of BarTender Designer software for Windows. You can also use other design software or Mac-based software to print to Eddie. Eddie comes with an ultra high-yield edible ink cartridge. It is GMP certified and made specifically for the Eddie. Also included is a carousel tray ready for 3”-3.5” cookies, a sample icing kit, and six sample cookies for test printing.

Cookies, Frosting, and other printables

If you want to make your own cookies, the most critical part to obtaining a high-quality print is to use a well-suited frosting. Frostings that are white and that dry hard work best, something similar to a royal icing. Cookies should be flat and consistent in size. Primera sells frosted cookies and frosting kits for those who don’t want to make their own. We can supply you with a proven recipe that will deliver excellent results. (Hint: the secret ingredient is meringue powder.)

Eddie Prints Directly to cookies

One of Eddie’s significant advantages over other edible ink printers is that Eddie prints directly onto the surface of the food item. No sugar sheets are required! Just load your cookies onto the tray and hit print. Cookies are automatically drawn into the printer one at a time, are printed and then returned to the tray for complete printing of up to 12 cookies approximately every 2 minutes. Cookies are dry and ready to sell right after printing.
